Closing the shadow work
You did not fix your shadow today. You shook its hand.
Shadow work is not a course you complete. It is a relationship you start. The shame does not pack up and leave. It becomes quieter, slower to activate, easier to recognize, and less convincing when it does show up.
The signs the work is doing something: you notice the shame voice in time to question it before you act on it. You can use the word 'shame' out loud about your own experience without your throat closing. You catch yourself mid-spiral and remember the protocol. You speak more kindly to yourself when you are tired.
The signs you still have work to do: you still have shame. That is not a sign anything is wrong. That is a sign you are a human being who has lived through something hard. The goal is not the absence of shame. The goal is a different relationship to it.
We are now ready to bring the work into your closest relationships. Course 07 is about rebuilding trust at home — with partners, with children, with parents, with anyone who lived through the addiction alongside you. It is some of the hardest work in this curriculum and some of the most rewarding.
Before you start Course 07, take a day. Walk. Sleep. Eat. Notice how the inside of your head sounds today compared to the morning of Course 01. The difference, if you have done the work, will be small and real.
Today's practice
Take a slow day before starting the next course. Walk, sleep, eat, breathe.
